The building
Each building is unique at its site. In 1976 Leopold Kaufmann,
the architect, designed the new company building at the Kohlgrub
for brothers Elmar and Konrad Dorner. Under the general management
of Andreas Dorner, 25 years later, the building has been expanded
upwards according to Hermann Kaufmann’s plans in response
to changing requirements. These are the origin for the new building’s
characteristics.
The long shape with its plain and simple exterior is located between
Ach and green zoned land, and with its car park (which is divided
by maple trees) creates the end of the street. The new, slightly
overhanging upper floor with its horizontally oriented wood paneling
creates a contrast to the existing Eternit wall panels. The "green
wall", a box hedge with shade bed, along the edge of the building
creates the indoor/outdoor flow
The inside rooms are divided primarily according to optimum functional
processes. The increased space requirements was neccesitated by
positive development of the company, which, at its core, results
in an open plan office with integrated project workplaces, expanded
by light office and training rooms. The work atmosphere desired
by the principal has the aim of encouraging open communication.
In everyday working life, the staircase around the vertical main
axis has effectively developed into an "open space". The
architecture consequently reflects a democratic and not hierarchical
company structure. The significance of the building is in its wide
expansion into the physical, cultural and company-philosophical
environment. The implementation of an innovative architecture in
a traditional environment fits well with the company's image. |
