Spun concrete

Spun concrete is filled into a more or less cylindrical hollow mould, which is set into rapid rotation (approx. 900/min) in order to densify the concrete by centrifugal acceleration.

This allows the use of a concrete mix with a low water-cement ratio of about 0.25-0.30. In this way, piles and slightly tapered masts in particular, are manufactured, as are iron pipes with corrosion-protective concrete linings for aqueous media. Shaft rings are made of vibrated concrete, into which holes can still be cut, drilled or stirrups embedded after striking in the early stages of hardening.

Otto & Schlosser (Meissen, Germany) invented the process and introduced hollow centrifuging masts to the market from 1905.
